Customer Rating: Summary: Guide to a simple life. Comment: I received The Four Agreements this week and read it a just a few hours. It is a quick read that seemed more like a conversation to me.
Ruiz shares that we are living in a dream (or nightmare) and have a choice to live in a New Dream. He writes about how this dream has come to be and what choice we have in how our 'dream' appears.
One of my favorite passages in this book is how he speaks about 'true justice'. He goes on the share that most of us allow ourselves to be punished 'a thousand times' for a single mistake by the "Judge" (our inner judge), "Book of Law" (our belief system) and "Victim" (carrier of blame, guilt and shame) that we use to filter our beliefs (agreements). "The human is the only animal to pay a thousand times for the same mistake. The other animals pay once for every mistake that we make." This spoke so loudly to me.
Ruiz explains that this is not an easy task, but that it can be done. He offers us this choice: "Maybe we cannot escape from the destiny of the human, but we have a choice: to suffer our destiny or to enjoy our destiny." I choose to enjoy it!
I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to live a new experience of simplicity, happiness and freedom.
Customer Rating: Summary: Choosing your own beliefs Comment: As children, this book states, we form our beliefs by agreeing to the information that is presented to us. Here is an opportunity to examine four agreements that can set us free and allow us to conduct our lives with more power and satisfaction.
These four simple agreements, which we make with ourselves, can empower us to better live out our lives in the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment. It's all about being able to make better choices at the day to day, nuts & bolts, level of life.
These agreements are listed in the book, on the inside cover, with a brief description as to how and why:
1.) Be impeccable in your speech
2.) Don't take anything personally
3.) Don't make assumptions
4.) Always do your best.
This is a very actionable and practical book that can open new doors to a more effective conduct of life. These agreements are basically a set of tactical working tools that can help us pursue our goals and our own strategic religious and spiritual directions.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good, good, good. Comment: This book literally changed my thought process. Not a week goes by without one of the four agreements going through my head when something happens to me. I have given this book to so many family members and friends. The Four Agreements is a straight forward book that helps to preserve one's self esteem and sanity in a world many times filled with cruelity, selfishness and uncaring faceless people.
Customer Rating: Summary: Simple and straightforward Comment: Miguel Ruiz presents the most direct, simple, and yet profound answers to basic questions about why we are here in this life and how should we conduct ourselves. He has shown me that I can look within to find my own personal truth. The very best thing about these teachings are the straightforward tools that Miguel Ruiz gives us to change our old belief systems and agreements. I have used them, and they work!
I got this book as an addition to "Can We Live 150" by M. Tombak - another powerful book about living simple, healthy and happy life. Both books has freed me to live a much more authentic and healthy life. I have read those two books many times an have given them to many friends, as I believe that both physical and mental health are the best gifts you can offer to anyone.
Customer Rating: Summary: The 4 Agreements Comment: Don Miguel Ruiz, a physician turned Toltec Spiritual Guide teaches the reader about the 4 Agreements, that if made, will result in personal freedom and a life filled with joy and happiness. The 4 Agreements are: Be Impeccable With Your Word, Don't Take Anything Personally, Don't Make Assumptions and Always Do Your Best.
The author elaborates on each of the 4 Agreements throughout the book and how to apply each to your life. My favorite section was "Be Impeccable With Your Word". Ruiz says, "whenever we hear an opinion and believe it, we make an agreement, and it becomes part of our belief system... These types of agreements are difficult to break. The only thing that can break a spell is to make a new agreement based on truth". Another helpful section was on "Always Do Your Best". Ruiz says, "The best way to say, 'I love you, God', is to live your life doing your best. The best way to say 'Thank you, God' is by letting go of the past and living in the present moment, right here and now. Whatever life takes away from you, let it go. When you surrender and let go of the past, you allow yourself to be fully alive in the moment".
