Summary: DON'T LISTEN TO THE HYPE
Comment: I own a pair of Sennheiser 280 pros but bought the Sony V700s because they seemed more portable, and they are. But the sound quality is nowhere near as good as the Sennheiser's, which cost about the same as these Sony phones. The 280s beat the V700s in every category except for portability and looks. The V700s look better and are more portable, but don't offer the same detail, instrument articulation, range, or comfort as the 280s. These V700s have very shallow pads, which means that the phones squash your ears back flat against your head. By contrast, the Sennheiser 280s have a deeper cup that goes AROUND your ear so that the pinnae of your ears don't get crushed. The cups on the 280s are OVAL, which suits the shape of the ear. The cups on the V700s, though, are ROUND, which might look cooler but are an unnatural fit for the human ear. The 280s have a tighter fit around the head which might bother some people, but that's part of the noise attenuation function, which is really good on the 280s. The 280s do a MUCH better job of keeping out loud noise so that you can concentrate on only one thing: the music inside your phones. The sound quality on the 280s is pure, much more detailed, and all around richer and more robust than on the V70Os, which have artificial bass enhancement that makes the mid and high ranges sound fake, positively unnatural. The excessive bass makes these phones muddy. If you listen to deep bass music like rap and hip hop where you actually want to artificially boost the bass, then you might like the V700s better. But the 280s give terrific rich bass that is natural sounding. The 280s are much more accurate and capture much more detail on the low, mid, and high frequencies of the sound spectrum. The highs on the V700s sound shallow and tinny while they sound clear as air on the 280s. Subtle background details I catch with the 280s are inaudible on the V700s. Singing sounds much better on the 280s, which do a much better job of reproducing the human voice. I'm returning my Sony V700s and keeping my Sennheiser 280s, which are a little bulkier, not as portable, and not nearly as cool-looking as the V700s, but they are ten times the phones for the same price. Just compare cables. The 280s have a heavy, sturdy cable while the V700s have a cheap one whose only benefit is its relative lightness. Even the soundstage, which is not the 280's strong point, is much better on the 280s, which have an open, spacious, sound compared to the Sony V700s which give no sense of depth or breadth. On the V700s instruments sound cramped together like they are struggling for space. The 280s are like drinking a nice big refreshing glass of cool, clear, pure water, while the V700s, with all their muddiness, are like having a Pepsi or Coke: sweet and thirst-quenching at first, but in the long run cloying and full of artificial ingredients. Compared to the Sennheisers, these Sonys are a joke.

Summary: Very poor construction
Comment: I'm not exactly a headphone connoisseur but I can tell you that these headphones have impressive sound. I upgraded from the standard issue ipod earbuds. The bass on these things is quite strong (its actually rather painful at anything too high). However, if you read the reviews for these things you will find that the common theme is that they break around the swivel thing. I was determined to be the dude who takes good care of his headphones and doesn't break them. NOT SO. Although these are some of the sexiest phones around, THEY ARE NOT MADE TO LAST. The plastic on the hinge/swivel device is completely inadequate for its purpose. Mine lasted only about a month. The sound still sounds fine, but the swivels are in shambles. DONT BUY THESE IF YOU WANT THEM FOR LONGER THAN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. FOR THE PRICE, THE LONGEVITY OF THESE IS A SHAME.

Summary: VERY UNCOMFORTABLE for extended periods of use.
Comment: The crappy DHL 'free shipping' that amazon is currently offering aside (took 2.5 weeks to get it), the headphones are extrememly uncomfortable. The padding does not fit outside your outer ear, but squishes the hell out of them to the point that in a couple hours of wear your ears are sore and feel like falling off.

Not recommended for long interval use, such as movie watching or playing games (these were the main reasons i bought them for).

I would recommend the sony mdr-7506 headphones for comfort, durability, and sound quality.

Revised: 3/5 stars for me

Summary: Best DJ Headphones on the market
Comment: If your a DJ like me, the best choice in headphones have got to be the Sony MDR-V700. This is my second pair of MDR-700 that I bought. I got my 2 Technics 1210's and my Pioneer DJM-500 and nothing would go along better other than my Sony headphones. Its been about 5 years and I will never switch to a different pair of headphones. The sound of the Sony headphones are like nothing I have ever heard before. It sounds AMAZING!!!! Crystal Clear Sound! I recomend ALL DJ's to get this item. TRUST ME, its the best headphones you will EVER buy, and at a GREAT AFFORDABLE PRICE!!

Thank You AMAZON.com

Summary: Sony's still putting out this garbage?!
Comment: If I could give it ZERO stars, I would (option not available). I bought these headphones about four years ago, put a bad review out about their horrendous construction/design (earpieces breaking quickly), see that many others have complained about the same thing since, and now see that they're still making them the same exact way. This is typical of Sony's disregard for customers' concerns. They wouldn't honor their own parts-only warranty, either. I've been boycotting Sony ever since - and you should, too! Who makes GOOD headphones? - Grado. I bought their SR-80's after the Sony fiasco and have been glad I did. THEIR customer service is superb!
