Customer Rating: Summary: Good sound, but not worth the pain Comment: Since I was purchasing online, I decided to go with a pair of in-ear headphones that offered different sizing options. One set of rubber tips fits pretty well in my ears, but I'll echo a lot of other reviewers that the over-the-ear piece doesn't really hold the headphones in place because it's not actually touching my ear due to the length of the metal piece extending up from the part that fits in your ear. But they sound good and I still could live with them, except...
I get periodic electric shocks from both earphones. At first I attributed this to the fact that I was creating static electricity because it usually happened when I was coming in from outside and taking off my coat or something like that. I left them alone for a while and then decided to try them again while sitting still. Every so often, for no apparent reason, one or the other of the earphones sends out a little electric current that is as painful as a pretty big static discharge. I've developed a Pavlovian aversion to wearing these earphones because I never know when they're going to "go off". Unfortunately, I'm beyond Sony's very short warranty period, so tough luck for me I guess.
Customer Rating: Summary: you get what you pay for Comment: I bought these because the Ipod headphones were too big and uncomfortable for my ears, and the sound isn't anything special. I wanted to start off at a reasonably priced set to see if they were good enough. Well, they were at first-the sound was OK-they definitely cannot handle some fuller instrumentals (and I'm not even one of "those" people, I just have some music that is meant to be played on good speakers) but they are definitely better than the Ipod buds, and the sound cancellation I have to say is excellent-I cannot hear anything while I have these in tightly.
So I stuck with them for a couple months..until the right earbud went completely dead! I haven't misshandled these in any way-I've been quite careful with them actually. I confess that I accidentally tossed the original packaging along with the warranty...but I wouldn't want these to be fixed or replaced because I don't think they're that great anyway.
One thing I did like though is the wraparound cord-some people find it annoying, but I like the cord behind my head instead of in front-it feels much more out of the way.
I'm giving these 3 stars because they are still better than other similarly priced and cheaper earbuds. The noise-proofing is great and I like how they fit. But buy at your own risk-they might lose their sound! And they are definitely not good for heavier sounding music.
I'm getting some Shures now. At least twice the cost, but I now know why more expensive headphones are well worth it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great sound but not the fit I was expecting Comment: I'm pleased with the sound that comes out of these headphones, but that might be simply because I'm not that picky. But I'm not happy with the fit and design. Here's why...
Unless you have the perfect size ear, the loop-hooks on these headphones add no value. You might as well buy a standard set of in-ear buds. When I put these in (which is made more difficult because of the over-the-ear loops) the loop doesn't even touch my ear. It adds no value - no stability, no extra holding power.
I bought these to be my "active use" headphones (snowboarding, rollerblading, mountain biking, kayaking - yes, I have an OtterBox for my iPod 5G). They are good, and I'll keep them but they are not what I expected.
Anyone know of a bud style headphone that really hangs on under all conditions?
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Sound but poor cord quality Comment: I just looked up my order for these and I can't believe I bought these in September of 2005. Why? Well Even though its april of 2006 I retired these in March of 2006 because the wire casing dissolvd exposing the copper wire and such...I mean it looks so ghetto...what a rip. Don't get me wrong the sound quality is pretty good and they do a good job of blocking out noise, but I only used these when I commuted not even outdoors and such so for the wires to be exposed after six months is quite ridiculous! Good luck!
Customer Rating: Summary: Very good sound! "Rotate" to make the supports work better... Comment: Sound is really decent! First plugs I've owned that actually didn't end up in the drawer (or trash) one minute after opening them. These will be great for those sweaty workouts (no foam inserts).
A tip to make that those loop supports work better: ROTATE! Yes, simply rotate the ear plugs so that each vertical stem is a bit more forward (more horizontal). Seems too simple, I know, but it works for me. Even the back of the package has an illustration showing the stems tipped forward to make a better fit, so now the rear portion of those loops supports actually touch my ears and serve a purpose.

Audiophiles who demand great sound quality but need something smaller than over-the-ear DJ headphones will appreciate the Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones. With nine millimeter diameter driver units and PET (generic mylar) diaphragms, your music will sound loud, clear and rich. The MDR-EX81LP driver units reproduce surprisingly-clear recorded sounds at a wide frequency range (5-23,000 Hz). These substantial, compact earphones also feature neodymium magnets for greater power handling and higher frequencies. Five times more powerful than standard earphone ferrite magnets of the same size, the neodymium magnets mean that the Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones maximize energy, while keeping size to a minimum. With these advanced technological features, the MDR-EX81LP provides great sound in a tiny package. Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Earphones earbud design was built for the audiophile on the go. Made of Elastomer, the hanger fits around your lobes for a snug fit. Sony has not scrimped on comfort, designing the earbuds with soft silicone for a stable and comfortable fit within your ears. Also, Sony has used a lightweight, aluminum shaft throughout the earphone for even more stability. These features allow you to listen to clear, robust sound while you're at the gym, the ballpark, or any time you're on the move. What's in the Box Sony MDR-EX81LP Bud-Style Stereo Headphones, earphone holder, carrying case, and small, medium, and large ear pieces.
