Customer Rating: Summary: DeWalt AND Defect are synonomous Comment: I have owned several Dewalt tools ALL of which have failed within one year. I am a tool freak so I buy many of them to use within the remodeling industry. DeWalt tools are colored yellow which means "CAUTION"!
I will never buy another DeWalt tool as long as Bosch, Porter-Cable, and Rigid are around. My Rigid miter saw works great!
Customer Rating: Summary: a little rough around the edges... BUT! Comment: I am a professional trim carpenter and high end furniture builder..I have been looking at the reviews of this tool and decided to buy one not based on other reviews but on my own knowledge and by checking them out on display at local stores..here is what ive come up with..This saw has tons of great features BUT there are issues with it.. #1 the castings are rough and not deburred.#2 the slide action is not smooth and I feel the reason is that on the old Model 708 they used two set screw adjusters to take up play on the slide tube that uses the bronze adjustable bearings but on this new saw they did away with one of the set screws adjustments and one half of the bronze bearing leaving limited adjustability for smooth travel, also the slide tubes are only 1" dia. #3 the blade drops below the kerf inserts on the table by an excessive amount making for a dangerous saw I think this design allows for the 14inch crosscut spec?? but there is a binding problem with this saw as the blade is way to low below the stock you are cutting ..all in all this could be a fantastic saw but needs refinement.I am not putting down Dewalt tools I still own and use many of them but they need to clean up the manufacturing and quality control in Mexico or bring it back where it belongs here in the United States..by the way i also own two Dw708s which are great and the (makita LS1214L the best 12 inch slider out there!!) and I own the 8" Hitachi and Bosch and two Delta chop saws and a few others, I have alot of experience in manual and CNC prototype machining and design so i know how these saws are built inside and out..this not just my opinion it is my experience.I have a letter sent into Dewalt stating I want a new linear bearing silde sent out and I will install it and deburr the castings on the saw to bring it up to spec. I await their response, If they are a good Company and truly care about the future which is controlled largely in part by the consumer then they will respond positively if not I will respond again this time to corporate and also return the saw I now have.UPDATE I returned this saw as Dewalt informed me that they cannot send me a new linear bearing they suggested I take the saw back which I did and picked up the Makita LS1214L no problems and I have the 1013 makita for years and it is flawless..Its a shame Dewalt dropped the ball with this one..
Customer Rating: Summary: dissapointed Comment: I sold my Makita(doh!) Ls1013 which was a nice saw, exept for the fence
And bought the Dewalt 718. I had read the reviews on the 708 and figured the new 718 would be as nice a saw, wrong! The saw is really chunky, all the controls look un refined and for the price I would expect a better finish. I used the saw for about 6 or 7 months and could not get accurate 45s, the clamp block that locks in angles other than the preset ones broke and the fence is not easy to adjust because there is a groove milled into the table that it sits in and adjusting the detent plate is a pain unless yo uhave a star driver on hand.
Dust collection sucks!
Bottom line, buy a makita, or if you want a 12" look at the Metabo KGS 305 I just bought one and am Very impressed with fit and finish, it has marks for pitch cuts for cutting rafters and a lever for setting at any angle for repeat cuts.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Happy Comment: Im a General Contractor and a carpenter. Saw is underpowered and have found similar problems as others. This saw is junk!
Customer Rating: Summary: DW718 12" Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw. Comment: Its a lot of saw with many different options. I purchased the laser system with this and they work wonderful together. I've been working on remodelling a house house for about 3 months and have been using my circular saw for everything, thinking all is OK. Now that I've got the DW718, my life has gotten a lot more accurate.
I would recommend this to anyone who needs to cut things quickly and accurately regardless of whether they are just cutting off straight or cutting angles. This saw does it all.
Thanks for your time.
