Customer Rating: Summary: Is it possible to fall in love with a grill?? Comment: I recieved my grill yesterday and opened it right up. It took about 5 minutes to assemble the handle and hinge pins, and POOF ready to go! I also bought the 20lb. tank adapter to go with it, it just seemed better to have around the apartment. I am definitely going to use the standard smaller tank size for camping and tailgating purposes though. The ignition button worked the first time and the grill was hot and ready to go in minutes.
Honestly I assumed this grill would work so-so, but being in an apartment, you have to take what you can get with grills due to size limitations. But this little powerhouse perfectly seared my pork loin while cooking the meat perfectly inside, leaving it juicy with obsenely yummy looking grill marks. I cooked across the entire surface with no flare ups or uneven cooking. The seriously heavy duty grate is what does it. I would buy this grill to even use at a home where I had more space for a full size grill...its perfect!! The flip out side tables are sturdy, but convenietly flip in for storage. I love this grill and am already formulating a summers worth of cook out menus in my head. Kudos to Weber for packing the power and quality of a full size grill into this compact
Customer Rating: Summary: Quality Grill for the Home and the Park Comment: This BBQ grill is quality. It's sturdy and feels like it's going to stick around for a while.
The Weber Q has several nice features: The trays fold up into the grill and have built-in utensil storage. The grate is designed so that grease will drip around, but never on, the burner underneath.
I've hosted two cookouts and I've received several compliments on my Weber Q. The food has always been tasty and you definitely get some good grill marks.
Clean-up is pretty straightforward. Out in the field, I usually give the cooking grate a good scrubbing with a brass brush to get the chunks off. Then after it has cooled, I remove the grate and wipe the inside surface with paper towels. All the crud gets brushed into the drip pan.
Some tips:
- If you use a regular 20 lb. liquid propane (LP) cylinder at home for other grills, then I recommend purchasing the tank adapter hose for the Weber Q. Propane tanks are much cheaper than propane bottles.
- This grill does not use the regular green propane bottles that you commonly associate with portable grills. Instead, it uses the slender blue propane bottles commonly used with torches.
- Follow the cleaning instructions: Don't use harsh cleaners such as oven cleaners. Don't use harsh scouring pads. And don't go overboard with the scraper. (I chipped a little of the coating off an edge of the grate while scraping.) For a thorough cleaning at home, use dishwashing detergent and a brush with plastic bristles and you'll be fine.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect for apartments Comment: The short version: Light grill (sparker works every time), preheat 5 - 10 minutes, place food and shut lid, enjoy company for a few mintues, flip food shut lid, enjoy company for another few mintues, remove food and enjoy an evenly cooked, flare mark free entree. This is what grilling should be, and the Weber Q 120 delivers this experience consistently. (And the sear lines are picture perfect!)
Longer Version: I live in an apartment, so parking a $1000 full sized grill on the back steps is out of the question. The Q 120 is light enough to carry out of the house and connects effortlessly to the 20lb tank that I keep near the porch (I bought the Weber quick connect adapter hose). The cast iron grate takes a few minutes to heat up, but there is no substitute for the performance it provides. The side tables are sturdy enough to hold a dinner plate full of food on each side. Construction is top notch and assembly was a breeze (5 mins). I place the food anywhere I want on the cooking surface without fear. The heat is that even. I open the lid a single time to flip. Why? Because I have no fear of flare ups charing my food, and when I set the dial to medium, it is medium every time. The cooking surface is perfect for 4 people, but if you want to cook for more, do not hesitate to buy the Q 120 if you want a small grill. The reason I say this is because with a cheaper grill, double the size, you will spend the same amount of time cooking a single batch of food than you will spend cooking 2 or even 3 on the Q. I've used cheap grills all my life and I can say with confidence that I spend double the time cooking because of the constant attention required to do the extra flipping, rotating food in and out of the hot spots, and moving things away from flare ups.
To sum it up, I like to host a party, not tend the grill all day. The Q 120 delivers on my wish.
