Customer Rating: Summary: Get a free iPod Video instead! Comment: Why settle for less, when you can get a brand new original iPod Video 60GB for Free! I got mine from this web site: freestuffsite.biz/ipod-video
Customer Rating: Summary: i-Pod Killer Comment: I've had my Creative Zen for about 4 days and I'm loving it!!! The battery is amazing lasting as long as they say on the box. You can extend the battery life if you're listening to music by "locking" the player. It'll turn off your screen, but still play your music. You can make a slideshow and add music to it! The software included makes it all extremely easy to do. Also you don't have to worry if you don't have iTunes cause the Creative accepts Windows Media Player! You can delete pictures right off the Zen without having to hook it up to a PC. You can create playlists without being hooked up to a PC. This thing is amazing!!! I have several friends with iPods jealous of my Zen!! If you're looking for a MP3 player that plays video and does slideshows here it is!!! Now I haven't used the video feature because I've only had it for a couple of days, but I have a co-worker that says the image is better on the Zen over an iPod. There you have it! The Creative Zen is amazing!
Customer Rating: Summary: 120 days of shear bliss ! Comment: I have had this device since February and it is great. Everything it promises and more. I was an MP3 neophyte and studied and looked around before blindly plunking money down on an Ipod. I think we all know from experience that best selling isn't always the case. I stumbled on a review of the Zen Vision M from the CES electronics show and my decision was made.
The video quality is great. I hadn't anticipated using it much but I am now using the video feature everyday, downloading episodes of "Lost" from ABC's website, then watching them at lunch.
The MP3 player is great. I am using it daily at work where I get miserable radio reception. I download the Don and Mike show each day and listen to it the next day at work. Works like a top for any podcast or video cast as well as most any type of music file (Real, MP3, WMA, etc.)
Creative makes great sound cards for your PC, why not a great MP3 player.
The interface will take about a day to get used to but in a very short time you will be flying through the menus.
I haven't used the Outlook Calendar or memos feature yet.
I have used the partitioning capability to allow my MP3 player to also serve as my USB thumb drive.
I haven't had to test the battery life much. With the included wall charger/adapter, you can keep it powered on all day and not rely solely on USB charging/connection (which it also supports.)
The radio gets great reception.
The recording capability is a nice bonus. It has saved me a great deal of time in staff meetings - being able to capture important conversations and retrieve them easily later is quite nifty.
Scanning the Web, there is ample online support for most any issue you might have. With four months of daily use under my belt, I haven't had any issues.
Summary, if you need a nice high quality MP3 player and don't have to have an Apple Ipod; if you are able to accept high quality over popularity, I would highly recommend the purchase.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great alternative to Ipod Comment: I just got this player a few days ago but have been using it constanly-its so great! I love the clarity of the videos. You may think its a small screen but it really does work great!
I chose this over the Ipod because it said it accepts more video formats, has more screen colors than the ipod and has a much longer battery life.
The first night I had no problem getting all my music and pictures on it, but video was a little different. It lists a bunch of formats that it will accept, but really it has a converter that it includes in their software to convert the videos that arent the right format. I have had some problems with this though-some formats that it says it will convert it wont, like my mpeg movies, but i havent had much time to look in to solving that problem yet, so maybe there is a solution. The one thing I have found on the CREATIVE discussion board is a different program that can encode the videos, but it takes like three hours for every hour of video you want to encode, which is a huge pain. I'm going to try and see if I can find an easier solution.
The second problem I had was with it freezing. I havent been able to watch a whole program without it freezing and having to find a paperclip to reset it-i can see this being a huge problem because i dont usually have something skinny enough to stick in the hole, and it doesnt turn off otherwise so it will just run down the battery. I was even trying to watch a slideshow today and it froze, so i had to reset. Like one of the other reviewers said it does have to rebuild, but i have like 10 gb of songs/video on mine and it only takes a minute or two max to 'rebuild' the database, so it isnt that big of a hassle.
Another thing that makes this different from the iPod is that it uses three different programs to get data/music on your player. It can be a bit of a pain but two of them are basically the same just with a little different features, and getting your songs onto the player isnt a problem at all so its no big deal. But if would be nice if there was one program you could do everything with. However one good thing is that it works with Windows Media player so you don't have to completely rebuild your music library.
If you do get this player, I would definately recommend getting a skin from www.bestskinsever.com because it really protects the screen great and is way better than any other screen protector/case-the website isnt very convincing but it works great and is way cheaper than any other competition product.
So basic differences between this and Ipod:
1. Creative has longer battery life
2. Creative has 262,144 colors on screen vs Ipods 65,000
3. Creative is almost twice the thickness as Ipod
4. Creative has a built-in radio and radio recorder as well as memo recorder.
5. They're both the same price on Amazon but the Creative has a wall charger included.
6. Ipod uses only one program while Creative has three.
7. Creative can use Windows Media to upload music.
Overall I love the Zen Vision, I just wish it would stop freezing. Maybe yours will have better luck!
Customer Rating: Summary: I won't be buying another Creative product Comment: I don't know for sure about this product, but I have the misfortune of owning a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra. The OS failed after a very short time (less than a year of use). After days and MANY hours of trying to reload, Creative customer service tells me "The problem you described indicates your unit may require repair or replacement." I'm replacing it, but NOT with a Creative product. If you're read this, consider yourself warned.
