Summary: GREAT! so far...
Comment: The Sony MDR-EX81LP/B headphones sound incredible. Far better than my $10 old ones that were wearing out. I can hear a lot more instruments and range in every song I listen to and even played a test tone using "Test Tone Generator" (Google it) from 0.1 Hz all the way to 24,000 Hz. Humans supposedly can only hear 20 Hz through 22,000 Hz, but I could "feel" (I guess) the bass at 10 Hz and high (I mean really, really high) tones only became distorted past the range of human hearing in the 22,000 to 24,000 Hz range (I doubt most music ever goes that high). So they sound excellent to me and I recommend them for their sound quality, but I just hope I don't have some of the problems the people who gave these headphones a low score had! :)

Summary: Great Product
Comment: You can read all the details of the product in other reviews... I read them before I bought too!

Bottom line...
1. Great earphones - excellent fit in my ears, hooks work, cord (I have the black model) is sturdy.

2. Very good sound quality. I have 4 other pairs of earphones and these are the best.

3. Fit - I run a lot. These earphones haven't fallen out one time, ever.

I bought these. I like these. I think you will too!

Summary: Good sound, but not worth the pain
Comment: Since I was purchasing online, I decided to go with a pair of in-ear headphones that offered different sizing options. One set of rubber tips fits pretty well in my ears, but I'll echo a lot of other reviewers that the over-the-ear piece doesn't really hold the headphones in place because it's not actually touching my ear due to the length of the metal piece extending up from the part that fits in your ear. But they sound good and I still could live with them, except...

I get periodic electric shocks from both earphones. At first I attributed this to the fact that I was creating static electricity because it usually happened when I was coming in from outside and taking off my coat or something like that. I left them alone for a while and then decided to try them again while sitting still. Every so often, for no apparent reason, one or the other of the earphones sends out a little electric current that is as painful as a pretty big static discharge. I've developed a Pavlovian aversion to wearing these earphones because I never know when they're going to "go off". Unfortunately, I'm beyond Sony's very short warranty period, so tough luck for me I guess.

Summary: you get what you pay for
Comment: I bought these because the Ipod headphones were too big and uncomfortable for my ears, and the sound isn't anything special. I wanted to start off at a reasonably priced set to see if they were good enough. Well, they were at first-the sound was OK-they definitely cannot handle some fuller instrumentals (and I'm not even one of "those" people, I just have some music that is meant to be played on good speakers) but they are definitely better than the Ipod buds, and the sound cancellation I have to say is excellent-I cannot hear anything while I have these in tightly.

So I stuck with them for a couple months..until the right earbud went completely dead! I haven't misshandled these in any way-I've been quite careful with them actually. I confess that I accidentally tossed the original packaging along with the warranty...but I wouldn't want these to be fixed or replaced because I don't think they're that great anyway.

One thing I did like though is the wraparound cord-some people find it annoying, but I like the cord behind my head instead of in front-it feels much more out of the way.

I'm giving these 3 stars because they are still better than other similarly priced and cheaper earbuds. The noise-proofing is great and I like how they fit. But buy at your own risk-they might lose their sound! And they are definitely not good for heavier sounding music.

I'm getting some Shures now. At least twice the cost, but I now know why more expensive headphones are well worth it.

Summary: Great sound but not the fit I was expecting
Comment: I'm pleased with the sound that comes out of these headphones, but that might be simply because I'm not that picky. But I'm not happy with the fit and design. Here's why...

Unless you have the perfect size ear, the loop-hooks on these headphones add no value. You might as well buy a standard set of in-ear buds. When I put these in (which is made more difficult because of the over-the-ear loops) the loop doesn't even touch my ear. It adds no value - no stability, no extra holding power.

I bought these to be my "active use" headphones (snowboarding, rollerblading, mountain biking, kayaking - yes, I have an OtterBox for my iPod 5G). They are good, and I'll keep them but they are not what I expected.

Anyone know of a bud style headphone that really hangs on under all conditions?
