Summary: What a load of dung....
Comment: When I first heard Nickelback about 7 or 8 years ago (The State), I thought they were decent, nothing great, but decent. I still think The State is an OK disc. But like most bands, once they sell out and find fame, the quality of the product goes down the tubes. Besides being musically bland, and never changing...the lyrics are just about as deep as a rain puddle after a drizzle. "Figured you out" has to be the worst...any 8th grade dropout could write that, its just plain dumb, as well as vulgar.

Summary: Best CD of all Time!!!
Comment: I absoulutely love this CD. It's my favorite CD of all time by any band. Some people say that it all sounds the same and i have no idea why they say that. I have no clue how a band could make such an amazing album. There isn't one sucky song on it. Each CD that Nickelback made has gotten better. Curb was good, The State was better, Silver Side up was better, and now this is the best. With All the Right Reasons, it wasn't as good as this but it comes pretty close. Here's a guide to the songs:

1. Flat on the Floor 5\5 Loved it. Ok opener. Really fast-paced, short song.

2. Do This Anymore 5\5 One of my favorites on the album, if not the best. Great chorus, great verses, even the bridge in this song beats all the others.

3. Someday 5\5 This was extremely close to getting 4 stars just cuz the stupid radio overplayed it so bad. Great verses, great chorus, and great bridge but the one in Do This Anymore is better.

4. Believe it or not 4\5 This is a good song. It's pretty normal but i like it. I love it near the end when it gets all quiet and there's that verse with an acoustic guitar.

5. Feelin' way too Damn Good 4\5 Again, just like Someday, this was close to getting 5 stars but the damn radio overplays it. Great chorus! Funny sounding instrument in the very beginning.

6. Because of you 3\5 This is a great song. It comes very close to getting 4 stars but i didn't just cuz it doesn't stand out that much. The verses aren't that great and the chorus isn't that great either but it's still good. Great guitar work in the very beginning. The bridge is pretty good in this song.

7. Figured you out 5\5 I almost gave this song 4 stars. Everyone always seems to hate this song because of the stupid lyrics and i will admit, they are pretty bad. But this song has a great sound.

8. Should've Listened 5\5 Again, just like Figured you out, i almost gave this 4 stars. This song is quiet and that's a nice change from all their hard stuff. They repeat the chorus a few too many times but it has sweet verses. The best part of the song is when Chad is going "ah-aha-ahah-ahaha" It's sort of like when he's humming.

9. Throw Yourself Away 3\5 This is an ok song. Great guitar work for those who like the hard stuff. Sweet bridge too! I think i like the verses better than the chorus.

10. Another Hole in the Head 3\5 This is my least favorite song on the album. I almost gave it 2 stars. Nothing on it really stands out. The verses and chorus are only ok. I used to love this song and i don't know why but each time i listened to it, i liked it less and less.

11. See you at the Show 4\5 Great closer. Overall, it's a great song. It's got a fun tune and fun lyrics. Love it!

Overall, this is a MUST-HAVE CD! Every song on it is great. If you're a Nickelback fan, you absolutely need to have this amazing CD!

Summary: Good songs for "The Long Road"
Comment: This may not be as deft as their current album "All The Right Reasons," but it's no loser either. Nickelback is refreshing in comparison to most of what's out there that's considered to be Rock music. But to clarify, this album only has 11 songs. So it's definitely not "too long."

What's great about Nickelback is they have their own style and sound. No one is making songs like FLAT ON THE FLOOR or FIGURED YOU OUT. A lot of people try, but the result isn't nearly as catchy. Nickelback is good at what they do.

Other standouts include: DO THIS ANYMORE, SOMEDAY, SHOULD'VE LISTENED, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FEELING WAY TO DAMN GOOD, BECAUSE OF YOU.

Summary: Nickelback is great, this album isn't their greatest though...
Comment: With this release following the commercial explosion of "Silver side up", Nickelback came out with an album that featured 14 somewhat diverse tracks. What is missing is that many of them to me, don't have the hook and hold effect that some of their music up to this point had. It starts out with huge promise and I am glad, in the fact that the first two songs are realy rockers. "Flat on the Floor" and "Do this anymore" are typical of the bands catchy street rock performance.

The album "The Long road" is just that, to long! Out of the 14 tracks on here, there seem to be one to many that not only aren't generating any buzz via the fans, but are almost half hearted efforts that would have been better to be left for some "B-sides" compiliation a dozen years from now. The album does have other tracks that stand out, like "Figured you out" and the Bachman Turner Overdrive cover of "Saturday night's allright for fightin'" which to me, despite it being a cover tune, they did an excellent job and it seems to fit their overall image and appeal.

Like many lesser known albums from a popular band's discography, I think in time "The Long Road" might catch some steam and become a cult favorite with more fans, as was the case with Van Halen's "Fair Warning" and AC/DC's "Fly on the Wall". Not a Five star album, but it does carries enough weight for me to give it a 3.

Editorial Reviews:

It's never easy following up a multi-platinum success, but Canada's Nickelback's latest seem sure to match the sales of the many-million-selling Silver Side Up. The formula remains pretty much the same--nothing fancy, just radio-friendly grunge that lends an appropriately dramatic backing to the powerful and increasingly confident voice of Chad Kroeger. Aside from the fast and punchy opener "Flat on the Floor," the tough, staccato "Because of You," and the Oasis-like "Figured You Out," the band deal exclusively in soft-rock anthems (soft, that is, by 2003’s pulverizing standards). The only real change here lies is in Kroeger's lyrical concerns. Where 2000's The State found him suffering the frustrations of small-town life, now he's tortured by a heavy touring schedule that promotes destructive drug abuse and strains relationships to breaking point. That said, you can't help feeling the ruthlessly analytical Kroeger would turn a visit to the supermarket into a riot of hatred and self-recrimination. For fans of Silver Side Up, Nickelback have delivered the goods once more. --Dominic Wills
