Customer Rating: Summary: Very Good! Comment: I have listened to both bands all my life, and seen one live. This is an outstanding deal. I strongly recommed. The only reason I didnt offer up 5 stars is that you are missing a few original members, and affects the vocals to some extent. With that being said, most of the guys are still there and better than ever! Very Good!
Customer Rating: Summary: chicago rocks! Comment: the music is what sets the stage. with majority of its members in their 60's, chicago is simply inspirational. you have got to appreciate their music composition in its full depth, variations and dynamics if nothing else. their performance is pure precision. sure, EW&F interacts with its audiences more but its music in no way can surmount chicago's -- technical and yet overladen with such graceful melody. however the two bands together just simply bring out magic. nowhere else can you enjoy six horns, three superb guitars and two bass. EW&F are movie star musicians. chicago is just simply superb musicians and every member in the band is a Bach. everyone should own this DVD. Rock on Chicago!
Customer Rating: Summary: Better Seat That At The Greek Comment: I was at one of the other shows from the series of concerts filmed for this DVD. The DVD not only captures the excitement of the show but you have a much better view than I had from my seat. The sound and video are pretty good throughout the DVD but I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the screen become pixilated with wild colors at the very beginning before the lights come up and in sections of the video where the lights are down. I would love to know if this is just my copy or a flaw in the video production. Overall, it's still a pretty good video.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great music, cheesy show Comment: I was a bit skeptical about getting this, considering that Chicago has been a really cheesy act since, I guess 1976 (I'm NO fan of the corny ballads). I like their earlier, more adventurous work, a la Chicago V. Same goes for EWF. Seeing that there was a bunch of older gems had me pick it up.
Sonically, this is an amazing DVD, and the older gems are fantastic, from both bands. It opens with an incredible 'Beginnings'. Other hot spots are 'Free' and 'Call on Me', "Shining Star' and 'Getaway'.
Now, here's the problem that makes it impossible for me to watch the whole thing in one sitting... MAJOR CHEESE FACTOR. The way these bands portay themselves is soooooo hammy, between the on-stage high fivin', pointing at random members of the audience, really corny canned dialogue, and general mugging and grinning. I don't know, maybe if I thought the 80's was a great decade I'd appreciate it. It's like a bad Vegas show. It's more akin to what you'd see at a Garth Brooks or Bon Jovi show. When the big American flag drops down behind the stage during 'Free' and the horn section 'salutes', I wanted to puke (esp. considering that in their heyday, Chicago was quite politcal and anti-gov't).
Content wise, about half of it's great, the other half is pretty bad, esp. the Chicago ballads. So I'd say it's worth a rent, but don't know if it's worth buying. That said, if you loved the 80's and all that personified that decade, you'll probably love this DVD.
Customer Rating: Summary: Next best thing to being there Comment: I can't possibly add more to the many fine reviews on this concert. I attended it live in 2004 and waited for the opportunity to purchase the DVD. The DVD will not disappoint. If you liked one band you will love them together, and ask "why did it take them decades to get together?". It is a good and entertaining concert.

The '70s and '80s rule as two of the most popular bands from that era join forces on Chicago/Earth Wind & Fire - Live at the Greek Theatre, a two-disc, nearly three-hour concert recorded in Los Angeles in 2004. These groups scored dozens of hits in their heydays, and if neither has come up with much of anything that's new in the past two decades, the sold-out audience at the Greek Theatre could hardly care less. Both Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire, have soldiered on despite key personnel changes over the years (Chicago bassist-singer Peter Cetera and EWF founder Maurice White are long gone, and much missed); here they perform energetic and tasteful versions of everything from "Make Me Smile," "I'm a Man," and "Saturday in the Park" (Chicago) to "That's the Way of the World," "Fantasy," and "Serpentine Fire" (EWF), among many others, to rapturous response. Nothing too exciting about all of that--in fact, it's a bit like witnessing a couple of very skilled tribute bands at work--but there are a few surprises, as when Chicago keyboardist-singer Bill Champlin takes the lead on "After the Love Has Gone" (which he co-wrote) and EWF singer Philip Bailey returns the favor on Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now." The highlights are the first and last portions of the show, when the two bands (complete with horn sections) share the stage for "September," "25 or 6 to 4," "Shining Star," and more, displaying genuine joy at performing together and generating a huge, infectious sound delivered with high definition visuals and digital audio. --Sam Graham
